Thirteen years of Outhouse: Shaping jewellery into stories of power and metamorphosis

Sasha Grewal gives us insight into the making of the most happening jewellery brand right now.

In its 13th year, Outhouse stands at a defining crossroads—one that embraces transformation as both an art form and an attitude. Founded by sisters Kaabia and Sasha Grewal, the brand has always celebrated duality: strength and softness, instinct and precision, rebellion and refinement. What began as an experiment in sculptural jewellery has evolved into a house that captures the essence of modern womanhood—fearless, fluid, and unapologetic.

“The first three words that come to mind when I think of Outhouse are unapologetic, audacious, and iconic,” says Sasha. “These words truly encapsulate who we are—bold in imagination, fearless in execution, and timeless in allure.”

The new season marks a distinct shift for Outhouse. With collections like Alchemy and The Boss, the sisters reimagine how design mirrors the female form. Alchemy is rooted in metamorphosis, a visual exploration of becoming—pieces that evolve, shimmer, and shift, much like the women who wear them. The Boss bags, on the other hand, draw inspiration from anatomy and architecture, marrying sensuality with structure. Together, they form a narrative that’s less about ornamentation and more about identity—about owning every version of oneself.

For Sasha, creativity has always been a dialogue between contrasts. “The story of Koko begins with us—two distinct forces,” she shares. “One molten and instinctive, the other tempered and precise. Alone, we are complete; together, we transform.” That interplay lies at the heart of The Koko Collection, a study in duality that celebrates the beauty of contrast—liquid gold folding into silver, chaos blending with clarity. Within this world, Koko Toko emerges as a symbolic edit, featuring the Koko Bug, a motif that shapeshifts from serpent to shell to safety pin—each form symbolic of transformation and rebirth.

Beyond its sculptural aesthetic, Outhouse has also become a voice for individuality. Each design challenges traditional notions of jewellery by blurring the lines between accessory and expression. Sasha’s personal favourites—the Koko Sigil Pin Belt and the Koko Klutch—embody this spirit. “The belt redefines how jewellery can be worn—it’s couture in its truest sense, draped elegantly with cascades of chains and intricate motifs,” she says. “And the Koko Klutch, with its sculptural legs, feels almost alive, expressive, and surreal. It stands as a symbol of our imagination meeting craftsmanship.”

For Sasha, inspiration is rooted in emotion. “It transcends places or objects—it’s about how we feel at a given moment. We draw from cultures and experiences, but always through a deeply personal lens. Our guiding philosophy is authenticity—to express our truest selves through design, rather than mirror someone else’s essence.”

As Outhouse celebrates thirteen years, Sasha reflects on the lessons that shaped the brand. “Each year has taught us something new. Every obstacle has been an invitation to evolve, refine, and rise.” And when asked which icon she imagines in Outhouse, her answer carries quiet conviction. “Meryl Streep, especially in The Devil Wears Prada. She embodies everything the Outhouse woman represents—power, elegance, intellect, and unapologetic individuality.”

Her own style reflects that same ethos. “My style is ever-evolving—playful, expressive, and distinctly my own. I don’t follow trends; I prefer to create them,” she shares. “Fashion, to me, is about crafting a language of style that is unmistakably authentic and ever in motion.”

Thirteen years in, Outhouse continues to evolve without losing its soul. Jewellery, for Sasha, remains more than adornment—it is a vessel for storytelling, emotion, and transformation. “Our pieces are artefacts,” she says. “They carry their own narratives and souls.” In every clasp and contour, Outhouse continues to celebrate the modern muse—one who leads with intent, power, and unapologetic grace.
