The Beatles aren’t just a band—they’re a cultural phenomenon whose story has shaped the course of music history. From their humble beginnings to their meteoric rise, the journey of how four young men came together to change the world is finally getting the cinematic tribute it deserves.
Yes, The Beatles are all set to get their own movie. Having parted ways more than 50 years ago, the fabulous four are returning through a series of four interconnected biopics—each told from the perspective of one of the band members. And that's not all. These films will feature the full Beatles catalogue for the first time, officially approved by the surviving members and the families of the late bandmates
Here’s what we know about the upcoming movies.
The big announcement at CinemaCon 2025
The ambitious project was unveiled at CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas. It was confirmed that Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes—best known for 1917, Skyfall, and Revolutionary Road—is at the helm of all four films. This marks a unique approach in the world of biopics, with each movie focusing on a different Beatle, offering audiences a multi-faceted look at the rise, fame, and legacy of the band that changed music forever.
So, who’s going to play whom?
After months of speculation, Sony finally revealed the actors stepping into the legendary shoes of John, Paul, George, and Ringo. Harris Dickinson (of Triangle of Sadness fame) will portray John Lennon, while Normal People star Paul Mescal is set to play Paul McCartney. Barry Keoghan (the Saltburn, The Banshees of Inisherin star) has been cast as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn (of Stranger Things) will take on the role of George Harrison.
What to expect from the story?
While details about the story have been kept under wraps, Sony has teased fans by revealing that each film will explore the life and career of one band member, painting a personal portrait while also shedding light on the larger-than-life phenomenon that The Beatles were. While there have been numerous documentaries on the band’s rise to fame, Mendes' approach aims to give audiences something new—deeply personal stories told through the distinct lens of each member. According to the director, the films will be “interwoven” and are expected to offer different emotional and narrative tones based on the character’s viewpoint.
When will the films release?
Production of The Beatles biopics is scheduled to begin in London in July 2025, and the filming is expected to span over a year. Sony has announced a theatrical release window of April 2028 for all four films, though it remains unclear whether they will debut simultaneously or will be released in succession over a few weeks.
With the support of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison, this project promises to be both a creative and respectful tribute to one of the world’s most beloved bands. And with a cast and crew this talented, The Beatles' fans have every reason to count down the days until the release.
