Now that Severance season 2 has wrapped up, social media is buzzing with anticipation about what’s next. And for good reason, Apple TV+ has officially renewed the psychological sci-fi series for a third season. With cliff-hangers that left audiences on the edge of their seats and plenty of unanswered questions about Lumon Industries and its enigmatic employees, there’s a lot still to uncover.
Here’s everything we know so far about what’s upcoming, who’s returning, and when we might finally be reunited with our favourite Innies and Outies.
A quick recap
Created by Dan Erickson and executive produced by Ben Stiller, Severance is a genre-bending sci-fi drama with a unique premise. The series is set in the cold, clinical corridors of Lumon Industries, a mysterious biotechnology corporation where select employees undergo a surgical procedure called "severance." The operation splits their consciousness in two—creating “Innies,” who exist only inside the workplace and remember nothing of the outside world, and “Outies,” who live their personal lives with no memory of what they do at work. Thus, identity, control, and corporate dystopia take centre stage.
What to expect in season three?
If Season 2 left you with more questions than answers, you’re not alone. As the final episodes delved deeper into the eerie corporate world of Lumon, the nature of severance, and the growing resistance from within, there’s a lot more to unravel, and Season 3 is expected to pick up directly from these high-stakes reveals.
Ben Stiller, the show's executive producer and director, has hinted that Season 3 will continue to push the show’s mind-bending themes even further. While he’s been tight-lipped about specifics, he confirmed that the next season is in active development and promised fans a shorter wait this time around.
Who shall we see from the original cast in season 3?
While there hasn’t been an official announcement on the cast for now, one can expect key names to return. Adam Scott, who plays the dual role of Mark’s Innie and Outie, has already confirmed he’s back on board. Fans can also expect to see the return of Britt Lower (Helly), Zach Cherry (Dylan), Tramell Tillman (Mr. Milchick), Dichen Lachman (Ms. Casey), and Patricia Arquette (Harmony Cobel), whose character arcs have only grown more complex in the last seon.
What is Severance Season 3 release date?
Though an official release date for Season 3 hasn’t been announced yet, the wheels are in motion. Showrunner Dan Erickson has promised there won’t be another three-year gap like between Seasons 1 and 2. With the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes now resolved, production is back on track—and according to Ben Stiller, Apple remains committed to the show’s high production value despite industry-wide budget shifts. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Erickson revealed that the next chapter is already taking shape, promising fans, “We’re continuing the story in a way that honors everything we’ve set up—and there’s so much more to uncover.”
Safe to say, Season 3 of Severance promises more existential dread and maybe—just maybe—some long-awaited answers. While we wait for a release date and trailer, fans can rest easy knowing that the world of Lumon is far from over.
