On and off the field, KL Rahul has a way of making style look easy. Now, he steps into a new role as the first Indian global ambassador for Italian luxury label Paul & Shark. The partnership brings together the brand’s focus on modern elegance and Rahul’s clear sense of personal style.

In an exclusive conversation with Harper’s Bazaar India, the cricketer shares his approach to balancing function and fashion, his everyday style go-tos, and how he makes confident fashion choices.

Harper’s Bazaar India: What drew you to the idea of partnering with Paul & Shark to be their global brand ambassador? Are there certain aspects of their design philosophy that resonate with your own approach to life and sport?

KL Rahul: Paul & Shark just gets my fashion vibe; it’s sharp and confident without trying too hard. Their focus on quality and timeless design aligns perfectly with how I view both fashion and performance. It’s not about trends or noise; it’s about quality, authenticity, and the quiet confidence that comes from knowing who you are. Paul & Shark’s understated elegance reflects my own approach.

HB: Your life deals with high-performance sport and the glamour of the entertainment world. How do you balance functionality and fashion in your wardrobe?

KLR: There was a time when I felt the pressure to always get it right, but now I see style as something personal, it is about being comfortable and honest. For me, fashion and functionality go hand in hand. I don’t try to separate the two. As athletes, we’re part of a bigger cultural shift now, and it's exciting to be in a space where we can represent more than just sport. It’s about identity, expression, and being real.

HB: Travel is such a big part of your career and personal life. What are your go-to style hacks for staying polished and comfortable during long flights or tight schedules?

KLR: Travel is a big part of my life, so I’ve learned to keep things easy and practical without losing style. I go for breathable fabrics, relaxed fits, and layers that can switch between airports, meetings, or just downtime. Comfort is key, but looking sharp matters too, especially when you're always on the move. Over the years, I’ve realised that style isn’t about being perfect; it’s about feeling like yourself. And for me, that mix of function and fashion just makes sense.

HB: What does ‘effortless’ style mean to you personally, and how do you keep it real amid a packed, high-profile lifestyle?

KLR: Effortless style, to me, is rooted in authenticity and simplicity. It’s about staying consistent with who you are, even as life moves at a fast pace. I’ve come to value honesty over perfection whether I’m on the field, at an event, or in transit, I don’t believe in putting on a version of myself. True style should feel natural, not curated.

HB: Give us your most reliable fashion advice—what does KL Rahul wear when he doesn’t know what to wear?

KLR: When I’m unsure about what to wear, I stick to what feels most like me—simple, effortless, and comfortable. A pair of baggy pants, a crisp tee, and my recent favourite Paul & Shark shark-fin cap are usually my go-to. I never travel without my watch; it’s the perfect finishing touch. I’ve come to realise that style doesn’t have to be over thought as it’s about wearing what feels right and confident.
