The mangalsutra carries significance beyond jewellery. A symbol of love, commitment, and tradition, it has remained one of the most recognisable pieces in Indian jewellery. Now, as the way we approach fine jewellery becomes increasingly personal, with pieces layered, restyled, and worn beyond their traditional settings, Zoori by Hazoorilal Legacy is offering a new interpretation of the classic.
The Zoori Mangalsutra balances the mangalsutra's traditional identity with the understated beauty of modern fine jewellery, combining delicate gold details, distinctive black beads, and diamonds.
However, the design's adaptability is what makes it unique. Zoori Mangalsutra is a modular design that can be worn in three ways: as a mangalsutra, a necklace, or a bracelet. Crafted with two detachable layers, the top layer transforms effortlessly into a bracelet, while the second layer can be worn on its own or can be worn as a stack with your existing pieces.

This approach mirrors the evolving function of fine jewellery, in general. It is becoming more common for pieces to function well in a variety of settings and outfits, seamlessly transitioning from the ordinary to more special occasions that call for something unique.
The Zoori Mangalsutra adheres to the same sensibility, allowing for a more flexible interpretation of the traditional mangalsutra while maintaining its emotional value.
"With Zoori, we wanted to create something that feels relevant to the way women live and dress today by looking at this timeless symbol through a contemporary lens," says Sonal Narang, Creative Head, Hazoorilal Legacy.

Additionally, the design expands upon Zoori's broader jewellery language. Sonal founded the modern fine jewellery collection, which brings classic jewellery traditions into a more contemporary setting by emphasising delicate, adaptable, and stackable pieces. Its designs suit both traditional outfits and more modern silhouettes, and they are designed to go from everyday wear to special events.
The concept behind the Zoori Mangalsutra is to enhance the mangalsutra's potential within a concept jewellery collection rather than altering its meaning. When worn together, the layers make it more noticeable; when worn separately, they become independent pieces that can be paired with jewellery already in use.
The outcome is a thoughtful reworking of tradition that preserves the emotion while letting the jewellery evolve with the wearer.
The Zoori mangalsutra costs between ₹3 lakh and ₹4 lakh and is sold online at Hazoorilal Legacy’s mangalsutra page and at Hazoorilal Legacy stores in Delhi and Gurgaon.
