6 homegrown brands for all your linen needs this season

The breathable fabric is a summer staple for a reason.

Harper's Bazaar India

We’re right in the middle of a sweltering, almost unbearable summer right now. With soaring temperatures, the need for comfortable and chic fashion becomes manifold, and timeless linen comes to the rescue yet again. The resilient yet magically airy fabric looks good even when creased, survives multiple washes, and makes you look and feel cool, literally. Ranking right up there with cotton as one of the top summer fabrics, it is also a favourite with numerous clothing brands who love it for its sturdy and lightweight properties, as is evident below.

Ahead, we've curated a list of homegrown labels with linen offerings that must be on your radar this season.

The Delhi-based label by Neha Singh and Pranav Guglani is known for its handcrafted pieces that resemble works of art. Entire landscapes in earthy tones come to life on linen, cotton, and poplin. In the linen collection, pick the oversized, roomy shirts perfect for pairing with skirts and cotton pants in the heat, or go for the Oracle tunic, which has a shirt-dress silhouette featuring vibrant art and will make for the ideal summer dress.

For a brand whose name means ‘pure cotton’ in Hindi, it’s no surprise that their collection mostly comprises pieces crafted from lightweight cotton and linen. Founded by Shilpi Yadav in Gurugram in 2015, it spins homegrown fabrics into fluid, androgynous fits that deserve a spot in your summer closet. Choose from a variety of pants, co-ord sets, dresses, shirts, and even saris in shades of burnt umber, dusty pink, fern, and coral.

No list of Indian linen brands would be complete without Kaveri, the country’s only all-linen fashion label, founded in 2011 by Kaveri Lalchand, that gives a contemporary twist to the homegrown fabric. Their collection is vast, with something for everyone whether you’re looking for a traditional silhouette like a kurta set or are on the hunt for more relaxed fits like kaftans and oversized shirts. The delicate floral embroidery and applique work is the cherry on top.

Our pick: Walk in the Clouds Amore Dress, ₹23,500

Structured silhouettes are a must in any wardrobe, and while we tend to gravitate towards more free-flowing fits during summer, breaking it up with tailored pieces is a great idea to instantly look more put together. If you’re on the hunt for outfits that make you feel comfortable and still look chic, then AMPM’s summer collection is worth trying out. We love the long jackets with asymmetrical hems that are cinched at the waist and paired with midi skirts as well as the sleek maxi dresses in jewel tones, a departure from the usual pastel palette for summer.

Our pick: Seira Jacket Set, ₹49,950

Ikai by Ragini Ahuja

Established in 2012, the Delhi-based brand is all about anti-fit clothing that transcends seasons, meaning its versatile pieces make for an excellent investment you can endlessly mix and match. The summer ’24 collection titled Riaz has kurtas, shirts, skirts, and dresses in a myriad of patterns and hues—think checks, geometrical floral applique, and stripes in baby blue, teal, grape, peach, and more against a backdrop of white.

Our pick: Riaz Linen Drop Shoulder Shirt, ₹27,500
