Over the last few years, we've seen numerous trends taking centre stage on major red carpets—from the naked dress and the skin-baring silhouette to corsets. Some of these trends have had their one-hot minute of fame and fade away while some are here for the long haul. Today, we're here to celebrate a trend that belongs to the latter category—hooded gowns.
Are you ready for a history lesson? In 1969, Yves Saint Laurent introduced a hooded gown on its runway. It was popularised once more in the 80s when Azzedine Alaïa crafted a custom-made outfit for Grace Jones in A View To Kill. The capuche silhouette became her signature style throughout the movie. Jones also walked for the designer’s couture show in a hooded gown. That's when the style gained iconic status. And now, these gowns have resurfaced as the biggest fall trend of 2023 and we aren't complaining.
