The runway seems to have got a tad more delectable. Designers are dipping their ladles into the colour pantry and pulling out delicious food-inspired hues, leading to a colourful feast that might just tempt you to taste them. From the creaminess of pastel-gelato tones of languid dresses, to the darkly decadent gloss of chocolate reminiscent of a forbidden dessert at midnight, these hues offer a veritable feast.
Chocolate brown
Few other tones are as evocative as a rich, chocolate brown. Deeper than espresso, warmer than black, it brings the right touch of an old-world gravitas to contemporary silhouettes. It creates a cocooning, melt-against-the-skin sheen, much like a perfectly crafted cocoa truffle.
Icy blue
The darling that’s currently the cynosure of all eyes: this crisp hue immediately transports you to alpine mornings and mint sorbets. Its allure lies in how well the frosty colour transitions seamlessly into your summer wardrobe.
Crème brûlée beige
Despite its rather bland name, the shade is anything but neutral. Endlessly versatile, it’s beige shot through with a hint of warm caramel. It makes for a well-tailored look whilst giving the sartorial equivalent of soft, sweet custard under a glass-sharp sugar crust.
Butter yellow
The runway’s interpretation of soft morning sunshine is a creamy, optimistic butter yellow. The kind that flatters rather than overwhelms, and feels like biting into a warm croissant, like a little daily indulgence.
Rosé blush
It’s the perennial colour of all things romantic and radiant. Rosé blush is a delicate blend of cotton candy, peonies and swirls of strawberries and cream. Think diaphanous chiffon gowns, linen resortwear and a glass of rosé or two on the balcony.
Pistachio green
It’s a playful colour that sits at the intersection of indulgence and restraint. With a temperament that’s equally suited to your gelato and summer minidress, pistachio green provides the perfect palate cleanser, whether as a neutral or as a statement.
Together, these shades create a sort of gastronomic fashion fantasy. Perhaps the colours are less about the food and more about the emotion they evoke: comfort and desire.
