La Mer’s lead scientist lets us in on the brand’s India launch, breakthrough discoveries, and more

Bazaar India speaks with Dr Jaime Emmetsberger, La Mer’s lead scientist, about the brand’s latest products, breakthrough discoveries, and much more.

Harper’s Bazaar: How does the brand cater to different skin types and concerns?

HB: How does La Mer’s philosophy of “giving skin life” manifest in its products?

JE: La Mer began when Dr Max Huber, an aerospace physicist, looked to the sea to heal from burns he suffered in a laboratory accident. He took an innovative approach to formulation by using the power of physics and energy to transform the look of his skin and restore its vitality. Inspired by Giant Sea Kelp’s natural self-regenerating powers, Dr Huber looked to this precious living algae— which can grow up to two feet a day—as a source of renewal. He fermented ingredients to the energies of vibrating copper plates and waves of light to enhance its activity and create our cell-renewing elixir, Miracle Broth™, which is present in all La Mer products.

HB: What have been some of the breakthrough discoveries in solving skin concerns?

This powerhouse innovation, which we’ve dubbed MRA-3, is a proprietary blend of sea-borne ingredients, created to deliver noticeable anti-ageing benefits, akin to retinol, without the risk of irritation or redness commonly associated with the latter.
