With WFH giving way to office outings, our uninterrupted time given to haircare has taken a back seat. And so, our tresses have been left yearning for some much-needed TLC, what with them being exposed to the summer heat, styling tools, dust, and product build-up. The result is that the hair shaft is left dehydrated, shineless, and resembling cattle fodder. For those who believe in the power of natural ingredients to fix beauty problems, consider these nourishing, easy solutions to restore the glory of your mane.

Hair thinning

Having fine hair can be an issue for those who fear a visible scalp. You can choose to use a protein-potassium-based hair mask that will help in adding volume to your fragile mane. Protein strengthens and repairs the damaged hair, and potassium repairs keratin which will help in maintaining healthy hair. A banana protein smoothie can work wonders, as it consists of amino acids, which help enhance hair volume and strength…. Say hello to luscious, thick hair.

Home Remedy: Put two ripe bananas, two tablespoons of honey, and two teaspoons of curd in a blender, blend until a fine mixture and massage it into your scalp. Leave it for 30 minutes, and wash it with a mild shampoo. This will help you enhance the natural moisture of your hair, as bananas are rich in potassium, which has high moisture content.

Itchy scalp

Moisturising is one of the most widely-recommended solutions to an itchy scalp. An itchy scalp can be caused by dryness and dehydration. Consider using diluted tea tree oil which can be an effective solution for dandruff, psoriasis, inflammation, and antifungal infections.

Home Remedy:  Dilute any essential oil, preferably tea tree oil, in half a cup of water, and dab it into your scalp using a cotton swab. It can help combat dryness by moisturising the hair follicles.

Dull hair

Studies suggest that shampoos and conditioners that have high chemical content in them can rarely benefit the hair. However, this quick home remedy can help you to a large extent. Dust and humid weather can damage the cuticles of your hair.

Home Remedy: In half a cup of plain yoghurt, pour two tablespoons of olive oil. Apply this mixture on clean hair.  Leave it for about five minutes and rinse it with cold water. Washing with hot water can dehydrate the scalp, and lead to hair breakage.

Excessive hair fall

Strengthening the hair follicles is one of the widely- recommended solutions for hair fall. Stress, hormonal imbalance or nutritional deficiencies are some primary reasons for excessive hair fall, studies suggest. A green tea hair mask can prevent hair fall, and heal the scalp.

Home Remedy: Soak two green tea bags in a cup of warm water. Once the water reaches room temperature, apply it to your hair, and wash it out after an hour.

Dry tresses

Dryness happens when your hair is unable to retain moisture, and this can lead to split ends, frizz and breakage. Adding omega-3 and antioxidants to your diet can help to a large extent because it combats oxidants, which makes the hair dry, and dull. Fish, nuts, and seeds are good sources of omega-3.

Home Remedy: Massage a tablespoon of coconut oil into your hair and leave it overnight. Next morning, shampoo it out. If you have fine hair, experts suggest massaging the oil from the mid-tresses towards the tips, as that is typically the driest part of the hair.  You can also choose to pick oils like olive or argan oil. These oils have properties, which can heal breakage, unclog hair follicles and help retain moisture.
