Bow hairstyles that can effortlessly elevate any look

One of the biggest beauty trends of 2024!

Harper's Bazaar India

From headgear and pearl embellished clips to delicate floral arrangements, hair accessories are now bringing in some contagious main-character energy. And while we are all here for that, we are surprised at how much spotlight the humble bow has garnered. They’ve risen through the ranks and established themselves as one of the biggest beauty trends for 2024. If hair accessories held a popularity contest amongst themselves, the bow would break the meter.

This celeb-approved hair trend is anything but new. Bows have been adorned in hair for centuries—tracing back to Marie Antoinette and the Victorian Era. And now, with the surge in girly-girl, coquettish trends, bows have returned to the mainstream. They’ve taken over runways, red carpets and all our Instagram feeds. The beauty of bows lies in their simplicity and versatility. With their power to twist and mould into various renditions of themselves, they can elevate any look almost instantly.

If you’re wondering how to incorporate bows into your go-to hairstyle, we’ve rounded up a few hairstyles that you can try!

Half up half down

One of the most effortless ways to wear a bow in your hair is the half-up, half-down style. There is something so elegant in this hairstyle especially when it’s finished off with a delicate bow. It can be worn with most hair lengths and is sophisticated enough to go from work to twerk easily. You can use a large or small bow depending on the level of drama you want to add to your OOTD. It’s the simplest way to take a classic hairdo up by three levels!

Supersized bow

Need to add a touch of oomph to an otherwise basic outfit? Enter: Supersized bow. This over-the-top take on the bow is a dramatic take on bow hairstyles and it’s gorgeous. However, remember to stick to a monochrome or muted colour palette to avoid the large bow looking garish. And if you want to take this look a step further, pick a bow with a cascading tail. This will give your entire look a Rapunzel-esque vibe.

Ponytail bows

Ponytails are very underrated. Considering their versatility and how easy they are to create, they aren’t given nearly enough credit. One way of using your ponytail to its full ponytail is by adding a bow. It doesn’t matter if you prefer a sleek, high ponytail or a low, messy one, a delicate bow can elevate your look instantly. The trick? Fix your bow on the scrunchie or band holding your hair together. It will add a dimension to your otherwise flat look instantly!

Max out on mini bows

Bring some runway energy into everyday life with this bow stacking method. What makes this hairstyle so fascinating is that it’s a maximalist approach created by mini bows. It is recommended to use clip-in bows for this one. You can stagger them throughout the length of your hair. The only thing to keep in mind is to distribute the bows evenly and not crowd your hair. Keep things simple.

Decorate your braid

If you’re looking for an elegant evening hairdo, why not try a simple rope or fish braid and decorate with bows? There are two ways to do this—you could place the bows at the top and tail of the braid or you could place them throughout the brain in intervals. You could play around with the colours and sizes of the bows. Whichever option you choose, it’s an excellent way to achieve a chic hairstyle easily.
