The bandana hair accessory is everywhere this summer

The ’90s style bandana hair accessory trend has unexpectedly become the It-accessory this summer. Our editors first noticed the trend taking shape at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where celebrities such as Elle Fanning and Simone Ashley wore bandana hair accessories to complement their French Riviera looks, whether that meant a T-shirt and jeans or a playful printed set. Since then, we have spotted them on everyone from Sofia Richie Grainge, who opted for a gingham, Hunza G bandana while vacationing at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, to Hailey Rhode Bieber, who leaned into a “lemontini girl” look, with a polka dot headscarf paired with her vibrant Pucci bikini set in Mallorca.

During Paris Couture Week in early July, Dianna Agron added a plain black bandana to her look to attend the Maison Margiela Haute Couture show, while Diane Kruger sported a striped option at Patou. And Gucci’s latest campaign, featuring Emily Ratajkowski in an archive-inspired, printed head scarf, solidifies that bandanas have become the must-have accessory of summer 2025.

 

However, it’s no surprise that this trend is having a revival. Some may recall the accessory has had standout moments throughout past decades, from the way Jackie Kennedy Onassis styled them while yachting around the Mediterranean to ’90s supermodel Naomi Campbell, R&B star Aaliyah, and minimalist maven Carolyn Bessette Kennedy putting their spin on them— bandanas are a summer classic.
