January 25, 2025. A date that will be etched in the history of luxury and fine fashion for years to come. The evening marked the remarkable 25-year journey of Sabyasachi Mukherjee in the fashion industry. The milestone was celebrated at the Jio World Convention Centre with the quintessential ‘Sabya aesthetic’. Canton vases, art pieces, and gourmet cheese platters were thoughtfully placed against the backdrop of a recreated Calcutta neighbourhood, a homage to the city that has shaped Mukherjee’s creative spirit and continues to influence his work.

The evening was a breathtaking showcase of the designer’s legacy — from his signature designs and intricate jewellery to his iconic accessories — all presented in a star-studded fashion walk featuring the OG Sabya models. The fashion show was everything that Sabyasachi is known for—storytelling through fashion and a coming together of tradition and modernity.

Of the many memorable moments at the grand celebration, the major highlight was Deepika Padukone, the designer’s forever muse, and supermodel Christy Turlington walking together as part of the grand finale. The visual was as powerful as it was timeless and elegant. The iconic moment encapsulated Sabyasachi’s mastery and his vision for luxury and craftsmanship and was a testament to brand Sabyasachi’s evolution and the global recognition it has garnered over the years. Padukone had opened the show in a striking monochrome ensemble complete with black gloves and layered jewellery, while Turlington closed it with her iconic appearance.

The evening was attended by the crème de la crème from the fashion and entertainment world—from stylists and journalists to Bollywood icons such as Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonam Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Sobhita Dhulipala. It was a celebration of an enduring legacy, the designer’s craftsmanship, and the future of Indian luxury.

Amidst the evening’s splendour, in an exclusive comment to Harper’s Bazaar India, the designer shared, “Sabyasachi no longer belongs to me; it is an aspiration that belongs to India. …Our singular goal is to restore and preserve the heritage arts and crafts of India to their full glory. I have always believed ours to be a first-world civilisation, where luxury was born and where it has always belonged. Together, we are creating India’s first global luxury brand.”
