Harper's Bazaar India

LuXperience 2025 celebrated fashion and luxury, bringing together some of the most talented names in the industry. From Raw Mango's Sanjay Garg to Karishma Swali, director of Chanakya International and founder of the Chanakya Foundation and Chanakya School of Craft, along with Pierpaolo Piccioli, Tarun Tahiliani, and Anita Dongre—the room was filled with creative brilliance.

The day's closing panel, featuring designer Manish Malhotra and actor Khushi Kapoor, moderated by Kalli Purie, vice chairperson and executive editor-in-chief of the India Today Group, blended fashion, film, and the magic behind the scenes.

Khushi Kapoor shared a heartfelt memory, “The first designer outfit I ever saw, wore, and touched was by Manish Malhotra. I used to accompany my mom to all her fittings with him, and there’s something so special about wearing his clothes. She also described their collaborative creative process: “It’s always been about discussing ideas, pulling out inspirations, and figuring out the kind of look we’re going for.”

In his conversation with Purie, Manish Malhotra also shared insights into working with Nita Ambani for the grand Radhika-Anant Ambani wedding. He regaled to her how incredibly particular and meticulous Nita Ambani is in her approach—she places immense importance on showcasing Indian culture and artisans at the forefront—whether it’s the decor, musicians, designers, artisans, or set designers. She was especially keen on ensuring that the work of artisans from Jamnagar was prominently featured throughout the celebration.

He also went on to speak about his highly anticipated fashion show at Namo Ghat in Varanasi, titled Dharohar Kashi Ki, which became one of the major highlights of 2024.

“Banaras is my favourite place. There’s something so soothing about it,” Malhotra said, reflecting on his experience at the ghat during the morning pooja. “I love everything about it—the textures, the atmosphere—it’s very close to my heart. The show felt like the perfect mix of fashion, spirituality, and textiles all coming together.”

All in all, the conversation between the designer and actor was both touching and insightful. They gave us a deeper look into their creative process and the emotional connection behind their work. It was a beautiful reminder of how fashion isn’t just about clothes; it’s about expressing identity, culture, and personal stories. Their reflections made us appreciate the art of styling and the people who bring it all to life. Here's a glimpse into the conversation:
