Simon Porte Jacquemus’14-year-old self-titled label, Jacquemus, continues to make jaws drop with its viral and elaborate runway shows. From SS23’s ‘Raphia’, the straw-clad runway to Fall 2022’s ‘Le Papier’on the salt marshes, to Summer 21’s barley field ‘L’Amour’ show and the famous lavender field for SS20-'Le Coup De Soleil', every time Jacquemus has raised the bar. To no one’s surprise, the gardens of King Louis XIV’s Palace of Versailles, outside of Paris, were taken over by Jacquemus- presenting its Fall 2023 ‘Le Chouchou’ collection. Yesterday’s show was attended by a slew of stars, including Claire Foy, Eva Longoria, Victoria and David Beckham, Karol G, Emily Ratajkowski and Simone Ashley, among others. Here is what some of the attendees wore
While Jacquemus' designs draw inspiration from his late mother as well as his early memories of holidays and vacations, the brands latest showcase had a 400-meter runway where the guests sat in rowing boats. Alongside well-known house models and muses who emulated the richness of this location, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Belluci's daughter Deva Cassel were among the show-stoppers on the runway. With white lingerie sets made of sheer lace, tulle, and silk bustles and peplums across short puffy skirts, slinky intricate bralettes, complex nightwear, to the square-toe ballet pumps that captured musical connotations, the collection exuded an air of French excellence and regality.
Jacquemus took inspiration from Versailles’ while paying tribute to Marie Antoinette, one of the city's well-known residents. The notorious queen's love for theatrics and dance is a utilitarian tone that Jacquemus frequently alludes to. He also paid homage to Princess Diana in the showcase with Kendall Jenner (among others) wearing a necklace that had an obvious resemblance to Princess Diana’s choker. The Queen's Mother had held a gem brooch that Princess Diana transformed into a diamond and sapphire seven-strand pearl choker and wore with the well-known "Revenge Dress”. Jenner shone in a captivating tafetta dress.
Accolades weren't solely reserved for the women's collection, with his expertise in menswear which was seductive and campy, and far more understated than his previous outings. With its attention to detail and unparalleled craft, Jacquemus continues its cadence of international fashion presentations, like no other.
