Emerging trends from Paris Haute Couture Week Fall/Winter 2023-24

From metallics to hooded gowns and more.

The recently concluded Paris Haute Couture Week Fall/Winter 2023-24, hit the brief with awe-inspiring creations on the runway showcasing fashion artistry at its best. This season celebrated the fusion of artistic craftsmanship and wearable styles featuring body-hugging silhouettes while introducing a myriad of fresh trends and artistic elements to the world of fashion. Some of the highlights of the show were Schiaparelli's delightful presentation of archetypal couture, Rahul Mishra’s homage to his artisans, and Thom Browne's much talked about debut.

Here, all the trends that emerged from the couture week we loved.

 Metallics

This season, designers took the glamour up a notch with metallic elements. From Rahul Mishra's sequined dress and Schiaparelli's incorporation of crushed glass pieces, to Balenciaga’s bustier dress made with around 10,000 Swarovski crystals, all added glitz to the ramp.

Sheer

We noticed a resurgence of body-hugging sheer gowns this season. The garments made a striking comeback with some adorned in laces and nets and others featuring Elie Saab's nude illusion designs embellished with silver and gold accents.

Playful texture

There was a magnificent showcase of different textures this season. While Thom Browne featured intricate 3D woven feathers, Stephane Rolland presented pleated embroidered leather. Valentino’s beaded jeans, on the other hand, gave denim to a whole different feel.

Ruching

The runway saw a revival of Victorian-era-inspired ruching, showcased in all its grandeur. Each designers interpreted the trend differently and added their unique touch on this trend. For instance, Celia Karitharioti incorporated of a dramatic side bustle and Zuhair Murad's ruching featured on the shoulders.

 Hooded Gowns

The '80s famous trend, Hooded Gowns, also made a comeback on runway. Valentino presented a stunning red satin gown, while Gaurav Gupta put his own unique twist on the gown by incorporating elements of an Indian saree.
