Deepika Padukone's latest airport look has made way for a new fashion trend

Comfort or style? Why choose when you can have both!

Harper's Bazaar India

Deepika Padukone has long been the reigning queen of airport fashion—be it sharp blazers, laid-back denim, or daring leather layers, her looks never feel like she’s trying too hard. And when it comes to Cannes, Padukone is not without her standout fashion moments. Remember her lime green tulle Giambattista Valli gown? Or her chic off-white saree by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla with the statement pearl collar? Only Padukone can pair graphic eyeliner with a shimmery Sabyasachi saree and still look like a diva! And while we wait for her red carpet looks from this year, we can't stop gushing over her airport look as she made her way to Cannes. Safe to say, it deserves a moment of its own.

The actor was spotted at the airport earlier this morning, making her way to the French Riviera, dressed in a relaxed layered fit that was quite chic. The highlight of her outfit was a cotton jersey sweater dress from Alaïa with a clean, straight-line silhouette, paired with baggy blue jeans. Now we know what you're thinking—jeans under a dress? Hello, early-2000s costume drama! However, Padukone's fit was modern, relaxed, and not forced. More importantly, it looked like something you’d want to wear on a long-haul flight.

She kept the look classic and functional with white sneakers—because let’s be honest, they’re pretty much the gold standard for airport dressing. Easy to slip off, impossible to go wrong with, and one that instantly takes the fuss out of long travel days. She added a pair of black Louis Vuitton sunglasses (a staple in the Deepika off-duty starter pack) and finished with a Santos de Cartier watch that quietly dialled up the luxury without screaming for attention.

What made the outfit work, though, was the balance. There was intention, but nothing felt overthought. It wasn’t a look trying to make a headline. It was smart, unfussy, and still impossibly put together. The layering didn’t feel styled for the ‘fit check’—it felt lived in. Personal. Like something she’d naturally reach for, which is probably why it lands so well.

It’s also the perfect soft open to her Cannes fashion chapter. If the airport look is so chic, we’re ready for the red carpet rollout.
