Bollywood’s favourite white sari makes a comeback

From the likes of Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji and Kriti Sanon, this look is certainly making these actors look like a vision in white.

Bollywood has had an eternal love affair with the white sari. While vintage Bollywood has long shown damsels draped in white saris dancing in the Swiss Alps or under waterfalls, the current lot of actors have lent the drape a contemporary twist. White saris, particularly with long flowing pallus, seem to be the flavour of the season.

Recently, during the promotions for Jawan, Deepika Padukone looked ethereal in a white Sabyasachi sari from the brand’s April 2023 collection.  The white sari with a running black sequins border was paired with a halter neck blouse that tied at the nape of the neck and the lower back. The long pallu cascaded over her shoulders giving it a dramatic effect.

Rani Mukerji, who was celebrating 25 years of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, also embodied her inner ‘Tina’ in a semi-sheer white sari with a black lace border. She paired it with a black sleeveless sequins blouse. But once again it was the long flowing pallu that had everyone mesmerized.

At the National Awards ceremony today, Kriti Sanon, who won the best actress award for her role in Mimi, was seen in a beautiful white Manish Malhotra sari which had pastel blue and pink stripes in the pleats and a heavy gold zari border. The long pallu kissed the floor as she walked up to the stage to collect her award.

The cascading pallu is elegant while adding a touch of glamour creating a captivating visual effect.

To replicate the look, drape the saree snuggly with fewer pleats and throw the extra-long pallu over the left shoulder. Let it then flow gracefully.

Who do you think wore it the best? We feel it was Deepika who aced the look. The flowing long pallu made her look even taller. But you be the judge of that.
