Standout fashion moments served at the 2025 Oscar Awards

The Oscars red carpet is always a highlight of the year, and the 2025 ceremony was no exception. Stars brought their style A-game, with metallics—especially silver and gold—dominating the night. Diamond drop necklaces added a touch of old Hollywood glamour, while shimmering gowns stole the spotlight. Bows made a playful yet elegant comeback, and a few stars used fashion as a platform for bold political statements.

Here are some of the trends that made heads turn. 

Metallic glamour takes over the red carpet

At the 2025 Academy Awards, metallics, especially silver and gold, dominated the red carpet. While Demi Moore shimmered in a silver sequined Armani Privé gown with a dramatic train, Halle Berry stunned in a mirrored Christian Siriano gown, paired with Pomellato jewellery. Goldie Hawn shone in a gold Dolce & Gabbana strapless gown with crystal embellishments, complemented by a diamond chain-link necklace from Sabyasachi.

Doja Cat made a bold statement in a leopard-print Balmain gown adorned with black and gold beads, accessorised with a 34-carat yellow diamond pendant by Messika. Emma Stone made appearance in a custom Louis Vuitton tank top dress, paired with diamond jewelry and silver sandals. Finally, Mindy Kaling wore a botanical Oscar de la Renta gown, its metallic sheen accentuated by three-dimensional leaf details. The metallic glamour was a true showcase of both boldness and elegance.

Diamond drop necklaces steal the spotlight 

Diamond drop necklaces added a touch of old Hollywood glamour to the red carpet. Doja Cat turned heads with a massive yellow diamond drop from Messika, hanging from a gold chain, while Bruna Marquezine stunned in a cascading waterfall necklace featuring diamonds in varying sizes. Margaret Qualley added a unique twist, wearing a classic choker that flowed into a series of diamond tassels down her back. Raye kept it elegant with a Lorraine Schwartz ruby necklace that perfectly matched her red dress, while Coco Jones chose a simple tennis necklace paired with a striking square-cut diamond. Mikey Madison channeled Audrey Hepburn, adorning herself with a timeless Tiffany & Co. necklace, and Selena Gomez made an impact with a sparkling diamond drop necklace, echoing the glamour of vintage stars.

Diamonds and sparkle shine bright

Sparkle was a standout trend at the 2025 Oscars, with stars like Demi Moore, Selena Gomez, and Doja Cat lighting up the red carpet. Selena Gomez wowed in a crystal-embellished Ralph Lauren gown, featuring thousands of glass droplets and a short train. Doja Cat took sparkle to the next level during her performance of Diamonds Are Forever, in a sheer Swarovski gown dripping in diamonds, paired with a lariat necklace and strappy Amina Muaddi sandals. 

Bows continue to reign

Bows are far from fading, and the Oscar red carpet was a testament to it. Mikey Madison dazzled in a pink and black Dior gown, where a delicate pink bow adorned the bodice, adding a touch of whimsy. Elle Fanning embraced a sleek monochrome moment in a white Givenchy dress, accentuated by a dramatic long black bow at the back. Lupita Nyong’o donned a white Chanel ensemble, featuring pearl straps and a corset detail, while Cynthia Erivo made a bold statement in a voluminous velvet Louis Vuitton gown with a bow-inspired bodice. These stars proved that bows, whether subtle or dramatic, are set to dominate the fashion scene.

Sending the message across with their outfits

At the 2025 Oscars, several stars made bold political statements with their outfits. Swedish singer and actor Kayo Shekoni drew attention by revealing the words “free Congo” on her black heel, advocating for the conflict-ridden nation. Peter Straughan, writer of Conclave, showed his support for Ukraine with a Ukrainian flag pin on his tuxedo, emphasising the importance of not turning our backs on the country. Guy Pearce wore a “FREE PALESTINE” pin featuring a dove and olive branch, showing solidarity amidst the ongoing crisis in Gaza. Pearce, who has consistently used awards season to highlight Palestine’s cause, said, “It’s the least we can do.”
