How to spend Christmas at home with your partner and make it the best one

Make hot chocolate and memories!

Harper's Bazaar India

It’s that time of the year when everything feels more pleasant (don’t let Mercury Retrograde take that away from you). The weather feels like a cup of affogato—cold, comforting, and brimming with happiness. The world outside is lit up with string lights and smiles, the streets are filled with people in love, and cafes are all stocked up on hot chocolate. Christmas is around the corner and the shades of merriment are making you seek a little more joy, even after a hard day of work.

Why not bring the same vibe to our homes? Christmas is all about love and togetherness and there’s no better place to feel that than at home, with your partner by your side.

If you’re planning to stay in with your boo this Christmas, here are a few ideas to make it special.

Decorate together

The best part about Christmas this year is that it falls on a Monday, which means you get a nice long weekend to yourselves. You can take the weekend to decorate (if you’re a procrastinator) your home with your partner. Put up a Christmas tree and decorate it with ornaments you both love. It doesn’t matter if you both are good at it or not; what matters is that both of you are creating shared memories.

Build your cosy corner

Picture this: you and your partner are all cuddled up in a cosy corner, spending uninterrupted time together, and feeling full of love. You can build this corner with bedsheets (childhood nostalgia alert) or use a teepee tent set. Add a few pillows, a comfortable quilt, and some fairy lights, and your love corner is all set!

Binge on holiday movies

Have a glass of wine or a cup of hot chocolate and get ready for an evening of holiday movies, which are sure to bring you joy. Whether you are watching Home AloneThe Holiday, or both, it’s sure to put you in the Christmas mood.

Create a Christmas menu

Whether you are cooking up a storm or ordering in, create a nice menu that will keep your taste buds feeling satiated. Mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, brie cheese, gingerbread, plum cake, and more—go all out and create a menu that can get you drooling!

Put on some music and dance away

While you and your boo are at home with décor that fine, why not put on some music and let the vibe get romantic? Make a playlist of the corniest romantic songs—A Thousand Years by Christina Perri, Perfect by Ed Sheeran, and I Wanna Grow Old With You by Westlife—if that’s your vibe. Pick the vibe you want to set, shut out the rest of the world, and be in the moment completely.
