Hollywood loves nothing more than a good revival. Now, that trend has turned an eye towards Legally Blonde.

With Legally Blonde 3 reportedly in the works, a new television instalment to the iconic franchise will soon be hitting our screens, too. Teaming up with Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine production company, Amazon MGM Studios is working on a new prequel series that will focus on Elle Woods’s high school days.

Witherspoon opened up about the inspiration behind the project in a January 2025 interview on The Tonight Show. “I saw that Wednesday Addams show,” Witherspoon said, referring to Jenna Ortega’s Netflix series, Wednesday. “I was like, ‘We should do Elle Woods in high school,’ because I wanted to see who she was before college, before law school. I started having all these ideas, and these amazing writers came up with a great pitch, and now Amazon is making the show, and it’s called Elle.”

Who will play young Elle Woods?

Lexi Minetree has been cast as Elle’s lead. Minetree has previously held roles on season 26 of Law and Order: SVU and Tubi’s 2023 drama The Murdaugh Murders.

Witherspoon announced the casting news in a video posted to Instagram on February 13. “Allow me to introduce you to the new Elle Woods,” she wrote in the caption. “After watching so many incredible auditions for the new Elle prequel series on @PrimeVideo, we finally found our Elle. And today, I got to break the news myself! Meet @leximinetree 💕🌟💅🏼”

In May 2025, Witherspoon and Minetree dropped the first photo from the series, which showed Minetree sitting in a high school classroom dressed entirely in pink. Placed on the desk in front of her were hot-pink notebooks and, of course, her trusty fluffy pen. “I'm so thrilled to introduce Lexi Minetree as Elle Woods,” Witherspoon wrote in the caption. “She is stepping into these pink shoes with so much grace, ambition and charm. Elle is coming to Prime Video Summer 2026! 💖”

When will the show drop?

Amazon confirmed that the show will premiere on Prime Video during the summer of 2026.

Witherspoon previously offered some insight on the timeline for the project, confirming in an interview with People that production would start in March 2025.

The series will show how Elle “navigated her world as a teenager.”

Witherspoon previously teased what fans can expect from the show.

“I truly couldn’t be more excited about this series! Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do,” she said in a statement to Deadline. “What could be better than that?! I’m extremely grateful to the incredible teams at Prime Video and Hello Sunshine—along with our amazing writer Laura Kittrell—for making this dream of mine come true. Legally Blonde is back!”

Laura Kittrell, who produced Insecure, will serve as Elle’s showrunner. In addition to Kittrell and Witherspoon, Marc Platt, Lauren Neustadter, and Lauren Kisilevsky will executive produce the series.
