Harper's Bazaar India

As 2022 came to an end, there were a slew of memes doing the rounds on the Internet, all revolving around the same topic—how every year after 2019 has been a blur due to the chaos and unpredictability that the pandemic brought with it. Will 2023 be any different? We, at Bazaar India, would like to think so. A new year means new opportunities and a fresh start. And if this year your intention is to be more mindful and healthier, then these wellness apps will be right by your side, cheering you on.

For the mind

Headspace

If your aim is to practice mindful living through guided meditation in 2023, then Headspace is the app that you need to download. Available on both iOS and Android, it offers simple courses on everything from healthy eating to ways to cope with a cancer diagnosis, apart from the usual ones on stress management, focus, and more. Feeling extra anxious? There are plenty of emergency sessions for you to try out. Take one of their courses and know that you’re in great company—the app’s fan base includes stars like Emma Watson and tycoons like Richard Branson. While the app is free to download, upgrade to premium to access all the courses—subscription plans start from ₹120.

Calm

The app does exactly what its name indicates—a relaxing time is in store for you once you try this popular meditation platform. From breathing programmes and stories to help you sleep, to relaxing music, there’s plenty to choose from. Pick from the meditation sessions, which range from short three minutes to elaborate half hour ones. They revolve around topics like self-esteem, stress and more, so if you are dealing with uncertainty and anxiety with the start of a new year, they’ll help you wind down. The crowd-favourite offering remains the sleep stories narrated by famous personalities—there’s nothing like the soothing voice of Bob Ross, or Matthew McConaughey to put you to sleep! Download the app for free and get the one-year subscription for ₹3,650.

Mooda

Taking baby steps into emotion tracking and don’t know where to start? Mooda, a mood tracker app with a cute interface will help you understand yourself better and aid you on the journey to better emotional well-being. Select your mood for the day, journal how you are feeling in the notes section, or share your thoughts with your friends—there’s plenty of features to explore. The app can be downloaded from iOS or Android app stores for ₹89.

For the body

Nike Training Club

Try the Nike Running Club app if running is your movement of choice. Both the apps are free and available on both iOS and Android.

C25K

Audio coaching? Check. Calorie tracking? Check. Easy-to-follow-guides? Check. If you have decided that 2023 will be the year you’ll take up running as a hobby, then C25K is the ideal beginner-friendly app. It helps you start slow through short routines with ample warm-up and cool down time so you can take things at your own pace. SleepCycle

Getting the right amount of sleep is key to good health, and with SleepCycle, you’ll be on your way to being well rested this year. Once you download it, you’ll need to give access to your microphone as the app records your sleeping patterns, sounds, and movements to analyse if you’re sleeping well. With the sleep goal feature, you can even set a weekly sleep target with wake-up and bedtime so you can make proper sleep routine a long-term habit. Get it from iOS or Android for free.
