How to set yourself for a great day with the right morning routine

Be the early bird and start your day on the right note

Yup, you heard that. It’s tempting to hit the snooze button in the morning, but if you are well-rested, it is of course, easier to roll out of bed. One of the things I have realized in my habit journey is that routines are basically a series of habits done consistently and a habit can only be done consistently if it follows the path of least resistance. For example, you want to wake up early in the morning by going to sleep early. If you try waking up early with only 4-5 hours of sleep it might be difficult to maintain in the long run (disclaimer this rule does not apply to the super humans who can survive on no sleep and be fresh as a daisy).

One of the things I struggle with is getting good quality sleep. I find that if I work or overstimulate my brain with ideas and strategies just before sleeping, sleep evades me.

A trick that I have found very helpful includes keeping my phone in the other room an hour before I sleep. Not only does it allow me time to disconnect, it also allows it not to be the first thing I look at in the morning!

Step number one that is waking up on time is done. I then start by doing a little internal reflection before moving about. Just a quick check-in on things I am grateful for and also an intention setting for how I want to feel at the end of the day. What this does is it allows me to feel positive about things the way they are and also helps me in realizing what might be missing and what I can do to perhaps resolve that. As an example, If the week has been a particularly busy one, I might set an intention to feel more creative or strategic by nightfall. So when I do go over my schedule for the day this intention, reminds me to carve out some time for simply doodling and coming up with new ideas to later discuss with my Fizzy team.

Intention done, a quick glass of water before some black coffee and I am ready to kickstart the day. Mornings are amazing because if I manage to get step one right (getting up early) I get a few hours of me time without anyone asking me for OTPs.

I alternate between Yoga and Strength training in the mornings and am trying to inculcate breathwork and basic Pranayams like Anulom Vilom and Kapal Bharti in my routine. Yoga is a big part of my life and I learn so much about consistency, listening to your body, keeping the mind still and not giving up through yoga and even strength training.

Whenever adding anything to a routine it helps me to habit stack. A James Clear trick, which simply means to latch the new habit you are trying to achieve to an existing habit. For my nascent breathwork habit I am latching it on to my post yoga/strength training routine so that it sticks.

A nice treat after the workouts is a fresh glass of daab or coconut water which has to be my favourite beverage of all time.

Post that, it’s all about getting into work mode which includes going over the checklist I made the night before, prepping for meetings and eating the breakfast of champions aka berries and eggs, separately of course.

Going to a strict convent school, a routine aka discipline was always something I metaphorically and sometimes literally ran away from. Ironically, as I grow my business it is the one thing I realise that can help me make good quality decisions that along with perseverance that can help in achieving our goal of making Fizzy Goblet the best and most loved footwear brand in India and globally.
