How to style the collarbone bob, spring’s most practical hair trend

The look is easy and understated, but still commands attention.

Sitting comfortably between a bob and long lengths is the collarbone chop, a style that's slightly shorter than a midi cut, yet still incredibly wearable and easily adapted to various hair types.
It's the perfect length for those who are growing out their short hair and those looking for a new-season refresh without committing to an extra short bob.

Model Kaia Gerber is a fan. Last autumn, the model debuted a longer version of the trend (also known as the “lob”) with collarbone-grazing lengths, teamed with subtle but shorter face-framing pieces. More recently, Alexa Chung opted for a relaxed version of the cut, with gentle waves.

Gerber, who has made moody, smoky eyes and bronzed makeup her beauty signature, wore the lob to a ’60s ultra-glamorous effect. Hairstylist Hoshounkpatin created extra height and fullness to Gerber's tresses and kept the ends flicked inward, which lends the illusion of extra volume. The gentlest hint of wave on the face-framing strands adds a soft silhouette and a polished finish.

This is a style that can be worn up or down, and teamed with a fringe, if preferred. Getting a collarbone bob helps to take away any split ends and restore volume to thin or fine strands. For those with thicker hair, this is a great way to enhance that advantage—those with finer hair should ask for extra layers to bring balance.

At the salon, opt for “a length that suits your face and proportions,” hairstylist and trend forecaster Tom Smithpreviously told Bazaar. “Between the collarbone and jaw is best, styled with either a side parting or a middle parting. If your face is wider, opt for a longer length, while if it is longer or slimmer, have the length sit closer to the chin.”

With this seamless trend, consider your spring haircut decision handled.
