November brings together an exciting mix of art fairs, gallery exhibitions, and cultural experiences across India. In Mumbai, Art Mumbai returns for its third edition, bringing leading Indian and international galleries together under one roof, with works spanning modern and contemporary art. The city’s gallery calendar also includes Kalpana Shah’s 'The Shapes of Elsewhere', which explores the relationship between architecture, memory, and imagination, alongside exhibitions that bring together established artists and emerging voices. Beyond the galleries, the month also offers opportunities to explore wellness and preventive health through The Human Upgrade Fest, which brings experts, brands, and interactive experiences into the mix.

In Delhi, exhibitions explore everything from the relationship between the body and its surroundings to the role of art in conversations around environmental conservation. 'Chronicles in Colour' traces Samir Sharma’s distinctive approach to felt-pen painting, while 'The Imaginarium' offers a glimpse into the creative world of young artist Rudranil Mitra through ceramics, drawings, and paintings. Meanwhile, Bengaluru’s 'Beyond the Familiar' brings together contemporary artists from South India, exploring the many ways they interpret memory, mythology, landscapes and identity.

Whether you are looking to discover new artists, revisit modern masters, or engage with ideas shaping contemporary art, these are the exhibitions and experiences to keep on your radar this November:

The Shapes of Elsewhere

Kalpana Shah returns to Tao Art Gallery in Mumbai after 11 years with her solo exhibition, curated by Arnaud Morand. Drawing inspiration from Gaston Bachelard’s 'The Poetics of Space', the showcase explores the idea of the house as more than a physical structure, as a space of intimacy, memory, and reverie. Shah’s reimagined dwellings invite viewers to project their own remembered spaces onto them before gradually loosening their hold on representation. At its core, the exhibition reflects on how places continue to exist within us long after we leave them and how the shapes we carry within us are formed less by architecture than by memory, reverie, and imagination.

Speakers include Luke Coutinho, Tanya Khubchandani (founder of Elixir Wellness), and Dr Prarthana Venkatesh (founder and CEO of Longevita), with keynotes by Dr Aalika Shah (doctor and medical nutritionist) and Shalini Shivdasani (founder of Reaviva).

Mouth Open. No Time to Breathe

What happens to our perception of the world when we move so fast that familiar boundaries begin to blur? This showcase explores the relationship between the body, space, and the surrounding environment, taking the fleeting experience of a skier suspended in mid-air as its point of departure. Curated by Jasone Miranda-Bilbao, the exhibition brings together works by Anna Brass, Billy Crosby, Dheer Kaku, Ole Hagen, Niroj Satpathy, Rai, Roy Voss, and Sonia Khurana. It considers how moments of intense physical experience can alter our sense of distance, depth and time.

When: October 27-December 6
Where: Thapar Contemporary, New Delhi

Chronicles in Colour

What happens when an architect transforms ordinary felt pens into a unique artistic medium? A self-taught artist and architect, Samir Sharma began painting at the age of 11. During his architectural studies at IIT Kharagpur, he discovered felt-pen painting, a technique he later named “Feltpenism.” The retrospective traces his artistic journey across decades, bringing together art, architecture, and storytelling. His book, 'Painter Kahani–A Painter’s Journey', further explores this intersection through personal experiences and stories from his architectural career.

When: November 19-23
Where: LTC Gallery, Bikaner House, New Delhi

The Imaginarium

This solo show by 13-year-old artist Rudranil Mitra is a collection of his imaginative world in the form of ceramic sculptures, stoneware masks, drawings, and paintings curated by Uma Nair. Mitra began speaking his first words only when he turned 6 and a half. However, he began drawing, shaping, and moulding clay from 18 months of age. He continues to be significantly deficient in language and vocabulary, and was diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, and significant language delay/impairment.

When: November 15-22

E3 – Ephemeral Echoes of the Earth

Can art change the way we see a planet we are slowly exhausting? Featuring Anika Jain, Jasmeet Khurana, Kanika Raj Singh, Pooja Hada, Poonam Bevli Sahi, and Suparna Arora, the exhibition explores environmental fragility, conservation, and regeneration, encouraging audiences to rethink humanity’s relationship with nature. Art cannot replenish a forest or return water to a disappearing river. It can, however, transform the way we see. It can awaken attention, restore wonder and remind us of what we stand to lose.

When: November 21-24
Where: Kalamkar Gallery, Bikaner House, New Delhi

Beyond The Familiar: Exploring Reality, Abstraction and Imagination

The group exhibition explores nearly 47 works by 16 contemporary artists from South India. It conveys how artists move between what they see, what they remember and what they imagine. The works range from realist portraiture to abstraction, and from canvas and paper to clay, copper, and natural-dyed fabric. The artists draw on temple towns and village life, childhood memory, mythology, marine ecosystems, and the politics of the body. Together they show how a shared South Indian visual heritage is being reinterpreted today.
