The embroidered fashion edit for your Euro summer wardrobe

T(h)read carefully, the itch for stitch just got real with handmade everything from bustiers to bags.

Harper's Bazaar India

Embroidered wear is that archetype of summer style that comes with a cautionary predisposition to impulse buy. And yet, year after year, we fall for it (and rightfully so). Maybe it’s the artisanal appeal, or the vibrant hues stitched onto breathable fabric. Or maybe it’s the seasonal spin across resortwear that cues in the summer spirit. Now well beyond floral patterns on beige blouses, embroidered summer wear is in its prime, and these are the pieces we’re crushing on.

Surmaye Secret Garden Green Blouse, ₹14,500

Cutwork embroidery, broderie anglaise, and a monochromatic canvas; this spring green blouse has all the makings of a summery fit. Handwoven with delicate front ties, it’s the audacious take that made us do a double-take: sold.

Nautanky Golden Bloom One-Shoulder Embroidered Net Dress, ₹38,000

Resortwear is in a whole other league during summer. Take this butter-yellow, one-shoulder gown, for instance, adorned in artisanal embroidery, starring multi-hued sequins and beads. A sundowner staple (and we get why), this one knows exactly what it's doing.

Taangerine Tiger Sora Dress, ₹28,500

This tangerine-toned midi is anything but mid. Crafted from banana crepe in a sculpted silhouette, it spotlights embroidery under the guise of embellishments (think: jewellery for garments), with bugle-led sparkly palm-tree detailing. Crafted to make the whole place shimmer, it’s bejewelled yet part tropical, part trendy, and evidently, the full package.

Calling June Carmen Co-ord Set, ₹12,800; Katie Maxi Dress, ₹14,900

Easy, breezy, and oh-so whimsical, these pieces are summer, epitomised. While the sage green maxi boasts symmetrical dori embroidery across the bodice and flared bottom, the off-white co-ord set perfects minimalism with understated threadwork across its tiered silhouette. For every purchase, the brand also plants a tree (so add to cart already!).

Label Deepika Nagpal, Jiselle Jumpsuit (Skylight), ₹13,990

You’re looking at French mesh adorned with scalloped embroidery in an icy blue format; little could go wrong. It all serendipitously comes together as a lace-trimmed belted jumpsuit, ideal for brunches and beyond.

Dhaaga Life, Garden Denim Vegan Suede Sling Bag, ₹3,500

This one is plant-themed, but also quite literally, with its vegan suede facade artistically garnished with floral embroidery. Pops of pink, yellow, and white pop off the mid-blue denim canvas in a playful, vibrant stance, turning this sling into a no-brainer everyday accessory for summer.

Ranna Gill, Ruvo Bustier, ₹6,480; Aster Bustier, ₹14,800

Bustiers are effortlessly chic, especially when hand embroidery’s got something to do with it. You could opt for the square neck, breathable denim with eyelet detailing, or the fruity, crystal embellishments on double crepe fabric. Style yours as a co-ord, with matching shorts or even silhouetted pants for a clean, feminine look and watch your summer wardrobe turn effortlessly pretty.

Anita Dongre, Idika SEWA Hand-embroidered Dress - Gold, ₹314,000; Aylsa Embroidered Dress - Sage, price on request

An ode to forest lore with a fairytale-esque aesthetic, Anita Dongre turns occasionwear into artwork with her hand-embroidered pieces. The gold tissue dress, a creation by the women artisans of SEWA, features flora and fauna in zari, threadwork & sequins. Meanwhile, the sage takes with its fitted silhouette straight out of the 50s, honours spring’s finest work in delicate tulle. The only couture conduit we needed this summer.
