Amal Clooney debuts a “Bell-Bottom” haircut
The geometric style is both '70s-inspired and timeless.

Just like denim trends, hairstyles come and go, but Amal Clooney is bringing back two retro (and unexpected) styles at the same time.
The human rights lawyer stepped out in Bangkok, Thailand, for a Women’s Initiative Event with a new haircut that pulls inspiration from bell-bottom jeans à la the ’70s, and it’s a timeless and elegant rebrand of the old-fashioned style. Clooney’s longtime hairstylist, Dimitris Giannetos, pulled inspiration from her outfit, a tiered, geometric lilac dress from Prada with a sleek, rounded neckline and draping in the back, paired with Cartier jewelry. To give Clooney’s hair that true bell-bottom shape and complement the structure of the dress, he kept it straight and sleek at the top and added lots of rounded volume to the ends.
“I wanted to complete the look on her hair with something timeless, chic—but, at the same time, make it bold,” the hairstylist shares on Instagram. “Since her dress is geometrical, I wanted her hair to have a ’70s flair! I gave her the ‘bell-bottom haircut’ before I styled it in a soft, bouncy blowout.”
Not only did Giannetos bring back the voluminous look, but he added a retro side part, combining a few nostalgic hair eras into one style. As for Clooney’s color, she is still rocking the “Cartier panther” inspired highlights, which she debuted back in April. Giannetos also created Clooney’s makeup look using Opus Beauty. He kept the cheeks and lips minimal and added slight volume at the lashes to let the dress and haircut take the spotlight.
