Skinny jeans were wildly popular in the late noughties, with everyone foregoing the baggy or the low-rise bell bottoms to flaunt form-fitting denims that hugged every curve of the body. They were at their peak during 2010s, before Gen Z started criticising millennial fashion on social media in 2018-2019, which lead to a decrease in their popularity, especially with the younger generation. The pandemic was the final nail on the coffin for skinny jeans—the lockdown meant we all got used to wearing comfy pants, and skin-fit jeans didn't fit the criteria. Now, with nostalgia leading the way in fashion, the bootcuts, bell bottoms, and baggy silhouttes are making a strong comeback. And in 2023, it looks their popularity is only going to skyrocket. Celebrities like Hailey Bieber (who’s most known for donning the baggiest trousers), Gigi Hadid, and Selena Gomez have been seen adopting (and rocking) looser denim fits. Even closer home, everyone from Deepika Padukone and Ananya Panday, to Alia Bhatt have ditched the skinny jeans on occasions, in favour of statement wide leg pants.
