At the beginning of every year, top brands give tech junkies more than one reason to cheer and spend (lot of) money on. The tech world is inundated with new launches, upgraded and updated devices, gadgets you didn’t know you needed, and a lot more. Whether you are the type of techie that goes through every review, every article, every description before making a choice or are often overwhelmed with the available options, and can’t decide what to invest in, we bet this guide will be your ready reckoner. Here’s the coolest gadgets you must consider buying this year.

Smartphones

February is going to be all things fantastic with a host of new flagship phones to be launched by Samsung and OnePlus. The former will launch its Galaxy series—including Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra—on February 1. For OnePlus loyalists, excitement is all set to hit a peak with the OnePlus11 coming to town. It boasts of a triple camera configuration with Hasselblad tuning and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor—phones certainly do not get any better than this. Add to that, the Realme GT Neo 5 is scheduled for a launch on February 8, while the the Xiaomi 13 and the Xiaomi 13 Pro is set to drop during the Mobile World Congress (Barcelona) that begins from February 27. Around September, Apple is expected to launch the next generation of iPhone: the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Ultra. Will the storage be doubled and jump from 32GB to 64GB? Will it have a larger LED display? We can only wait and see.

Watches

Apple always knows that its customers want their gadget to be more than just a device. Last year, they redefined how smartwatches were going to look and behave with the launch of the Apple Watch Ultra. This year, things are set to go one notch higher with Apple prepping a second generation of the awesome smartwatch—the Apple Watch Ultra 2—that’s slated for a launch later this year or early 2024.

AR/XR headsets

It’s time to talk about the gadget that was the most spoken about at CES 2023—HTC’s VIVE XR Elite. The next-gen headset from HTC offers a versatile design—it can be either a wireless or connected device, and comes with a hot-swappable battery. It's nice and light to put on. The front RGB camera offers a great experience to support its XR skills. We know it is lightweight and is extremely stable and comfortable to wear. They’ve also got adjusters, a feature that enables one to make changes to suit their vision and focus the lenses accordingly—something the bespectacleds don’t need to worry about.

Smart telescope (Yes, you read that right)

Another device that created a buzz CES 2023 was the eQuinox 2. It’s a smart telescope, apparently so powerful—thanks to its smart light pollution reduction feature—that it allows users in light-polluted cities and suburbs to gaze everything from planets in the Solar System to galaxies far beyond. Users can browse a catalogue of over 5,000 celestial objects or get suggestions from the device. The eQuinox 2 uses its Autonomous Field Detection—what Unistellar claims is the industry’s simplest and most powerful smart orientation technology for telescopes—to orient itself automatically, even when only a few stars are visible, to clearly pinpoint, focus and track its target. It’s currently available for pre-order and will be shipped early this year.

Smart home speakers

Sonos is preparing a wave of premium new home speakers for release next year and is also looking to expand its products outside of the home theatre space. The first to hit the market will be their wireless headphones, marking another portable audio category for Sonos. Don’t be surprised to see them foray into video streaming devices in order to complement their wide range of audio streaming services. What we’re certainly looking forward to from them is their upcoming flagship desk speaker—codenamed Optimo 2. It’s likely to replace the Sonos Five as the company’s top-tier standalone speaker, and will deliver better sound quality than any Sonos product to date.

Smart gadgets for the car

If you’re wondering how to make your car more savy, a dash cam is the best choice. With crisp, super-high resolution, 24-hour parked car monitoring and GPS tracking—all through the day, the Vantrue N4 is one of the best is the market. Along with a front-facing camera, its interior and rear cameras gives you footage from three different angles. Its three-inch display is bright and easy to read, with control buttons being clearly marked and readily accessible. The second dash cam that we’d certainly recommend is the Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2. It’s got night vision, 24-hour parked-car monitoring, built-in Wi-Fi, and voice control.

Gaming consoles

After launching PlayStation 5 in 2021, Sony is finally ready to launch the PS5 Slim gaming device is Q3 2023. The new device won't just be lighter than the original, but also have an improved design(you also won't need a stand to place it horizontally).
