5 blush trends for those who love novelty

From ombre to douyin, these blush looks will ensure you stay experimental, with minimum effort and maximum style!

Harper's Bazaar India

We’ve come a long way, when it comes to having that healthy flush on our cheeks. Today, we have a plethora of blushes in a variety of formulations. But even back in the day, when the beauty industry mainly existed in just our homes and gardens, people were obsessed with adding colour to their faces. Ancient Egyptians used red ochre mixed with fat on their cheeks while the Greeks used mulberry pulp for the tint.

While in the Middle Ages, too much blush was considered bad, women all over the world started wearing it again because what’s not to love here? Our grandmothers used to pinch their cheeks for quick redness. Clearly, the world’s been obsessed with it and blush has been occupying the must-have position in every makeup kit.

People have realised that when it comes to adding colour and dimension to our cheeks, there is a huge scope for experiment. If you love blushes and would love to do more than just simply dabbing it all over your cheeks, here are some trends we love.

This is an interesting one, with blush contouring your face and giving it a good lift. The blush trend originated in Asian countries such as Korea and Japan, garnering attention from people seeking a natural look. Draw Vs on your cheekbones, outer corner of your eyes, as well as on your chin and nose using a liquid or cream blush. Blend well.

Ombre blush

I get it, new makeup trends and techniques may seem like too much effort when you’ve already spent what seemed like an eternity in picking an outfit and shaving your legs. But trust me, this one’s super easy and gives your face a great contour! The idea is to apply a darker shade on your temples and a lighter/brighter on your cheeks. Blend it to give it a nice gradient effect.

Gone are the days when the blush was just for your cheeks. The trend is to make it look like you’ve got a nice flush from being in the sun. For that, apply blush in a straight line across your cheeks and nose and blend well. You can dab a little on your forehead and chin—basically a little red on wherever the sun would fall. What’s more, this is the perfect blush trend for a golden hour selfie!

Subtle flush

If you want your cheeks to have a blush-from-within appeal, throw on a huge amount of liquid blush (No, you don’t have to go out looking like Annabelle)! On top of this, apply your foundation which will dilute some of the colour. Voila, there is your subtle flush which will make it look like you’ve been taking your water reminders very seriously.

Not-so-rosy blush

In a day and age where innovation holds the key to being non-redundant, why would we not experiment with hues to put on our cheeks? People on social media are defying norms in a range of non-rouge blushes with shades such as yellow, green and black even. You start from right under your eyes and apply it a little higher on your cheekbones. Blend well and look like a Goddess.
