#BazaarWomenInFocus: Arpita Mehta is redefining what modern Indian couture looks like
With her modern take on Indian craftsmanship, Arpita Mehta is shaping a new language of homegrown luxury.

Few designers capture the spirit of contemporary Indian fashion quite like Arpita Mehta. Over the past decade, her work has come to represent the balance between tradition and modernity—a conversation that is both deeply rooted in heritage and beautifully attuned to the changing rhythms of today’s woman.
Known for her signature mirror work, fluid drapes, and pastel palettes, Mehta’s designs are a celebration of subtle glamour. They speak to the modern Indian woman, who is confident, self-assured, and unafraid to express herself through her clothes. Her ensembles carry a sense of ease and joy that has become synonymous with her brand.
What began as a small studio in Mumbai has now grown into one of India’s most loved fashion houses, with flagship stores in both Mumbai and Delhi, and a strong presence across luxury multi-designer platforms. Her collections have graced countless weddings, red carpets, and festive wardrobes, finding fans among some of the country’s most stylish women. But what truly sets her apart is her eye for craft—her ability to take traditional Indian craft and embroidery and reinterpret it through modern silhouettes that feel fresh, wearable, and timeless.
This year, Mehta reached a significant creative milestone with her collaboration with Jo Malone London—a partnership that seamlessly blended fragrance and fashion. The collaboration reflected her signature style: refined yet rooted, delicate yet impactful. It also marked her growing global presence, positioning her among a new generation of Indian designers bringing homegrown aesthetics to the international stage.
When she walked up to accept the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year 2025 Award for Spotlight Fashion on October 25, Mehta exuded grace and confidence.
“I feel super honoured and blessed to be here tonight. I am super grateful to Harper’s Bazaar and the entire team for this recognition today. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported me in this journey—my family, my incredible team, my well-wishers who have always given me so much love, and tonight feels super special, and I am just so happy to be here. Thank you, everyone!" she gushed.
For Arpita Mehta, success is not just measured in collections or stores, but in the relationships she has built and the women who feel beautiful wearing her creations. Each piece that leaves her atelier tells a story, stitched with devotion to craft, an understanding of form, and a commitment to empowering Indian design. Whether it’s a hand-embroidered lehenga or a fluid contemporary saree, Mehta’s work celebrates individuality while honouring India’s artistic legacy.
As she continues to expand her creative footprint, one thing remains constant—Mehta’s belief that fashion should feel personal, joyful, and timeless. In her world, couture isn’t just about occasion; it is about emotion, memory, and modern Indian identity.
