Two centuries, one dram: The Macallan marks 200 years with intimacy and imagination
In Delhi, a celebration of tradition, time, and the sensory journey of a rare single malt.

A rainy evening in Delhi always sets the perfect mood for any extraordinary celebration. Against the backdrop of gentle drizzle and cool breezes, The Macallan—synonymous with heritage, craftsmanship, and luxury—marks a monumental occasion. The brand unveils TIME: SPACE Mastery, The Macallan’s limited-edition expression and the crown jewel of their bicentennial year celebration.
TIME: SPACE Mastery symbolises the brand’s commitment to mastery over both time—the patient maturation process that defines exceptional whisky—and space that refers to the unique environments influencing flavour development. This bottle is a celebration of that delicate balance, capturing the essence of heritage while pushing the boundaries of innovation. Only 120 bottles of this rare whisky will be available in India. But what lingers longer than scarcity is sentiment. This isn’t about exclusivity; it is about elegance, emotion, and a deep reverence for craft.
As I walk through the gates of The Upper HSE by Tivoli, I am immediately transported—though not to the Highlands of Scotland, as one might expect, but to a realm that feels suspended in time. An immersive tunnel greets me, leading to a sculptural installation inspired by the hedgehog—a subtle symbol of resilience and protection drawn from nature. The peacock, too, makes its subtle presence felt—a nod to nature’s beauty and the 100 per cent natural colour The Macallan prides itself on. These red sculptural motifs remind me that time must be held gently.
TIME: SPACE Mastery is, at its heart, a statement of purpose. Crafted from 14 cask types—including European and American Oak sherry-seasoned barrels, Bourbon casks and rare refill casks—it is a sensory archive of time itself. The vessel it comes in is no less poetic: A circular, sculpted box with 200 hand-carved spikes, guarding the liquid gold within like an heirloom.
“This isn’t just a whisky,” says Madhu Rajigani, The Macallan’s Brand Ambassador in India, as he leads the tasting. “It’s a philosophy—a tribute to patience, purpose, and the mastery of time.” And indeed, as I take my first sip, I feel the weight of that time. From dark chocolate, orange peel to the comforting warmth of spice—it is a dram that doesn’t shout, but lingers.
Dinner follows in a room cast in soft amber light, echoing the hues of the whisky itself. Each course is paired with intention and tenderness. We began with a seasonal mango and avocado salad dressed with Asian chilli and ginger—sweet, sharp, and evocative of the citrus notes in our glasses. The burrata ravioli that follows, warm and earthy under a cherry tomato and aged Parmesan drizzle, brings out the whisky’s mellow, nutty richness. For the main course, a lamb chop smoked in marjoram and sage is the perfect combination for the whisky’s deep fruit and spice. To the end the meal, what could be better than a trio of berry textures—cream, cake, and tart—alongside dark chocolate and, of course, a final dram. At my table, everyone has ‘a Macallan memory’. That, perhaps, is the brand’s real magic. For all its legacy and rarity, it still finds its way into people’s personal histories.
The biggest takeaway for me? The Macallan’s sincerity. At 200, it carries its legacy with quiet confidence. It’s a rare thing in a world obsessed with novelty. No rush, no hashtags. Just craft and conversation. I leave with the feeling that I had been a part of something slow and deliberate in the best way. Not a spectacle, but a ceremony. Here’s to The Macallan—200 years young, still pouring history, one dram at a time.
