The New Defender OCTA has arrived in India, and it is more than just an SUV. It made its debut on March 26, at the Aamby Valley Airstrip in Maharashtra. A bespoke 7567 square-foot structure was created for the launch, offering a specially curated culinary experience. Guests were also treated to an adrenaline-pumping test drive of the Defender OCTA. 

It is built for people who want power, comfort, and the confidence to drive anywhere. Whether it’s city roads, highways, or rough off-road trails, this machine is designed to handle it all. It brings together toughness and luxury in a way that makes every drive exciting, smooth, and effortless.

At the core of the Defender OCTA is a 4.4-litre Twin Turbo mild-hybrid V8 engine, delivering 467 kW (626 hp) and up to 750 Nm of torque. What that really means is that it can go from 0-100 km/h in just 4 seconds. That’s not just quick—it’s the fastest Defender ever made. Whether you’re pushing it on an open highway or taking an off-road terrain, this SUV is designed to deliver power exactly when you need it.

To ensure that power is balanced with control, the 6D Dynamics suspension system makes its debut in a Defender. This technology keeps the SUV steady by controlling how much it tilts or leans, making sure that high-speed turns feel stable, and off-road bumps don’t throw you off. The ride height has also been raised by 28 mm, which aids better ground clearance. Whether it’s a steep incline, rocky patch, or water crossing, the Defender OCTA is built to handle it without hesitation.

For off-road enthusiasts, there is something truly special—OCTA Mode. This is a performance-focused off-road setting that adjusts the SUV’s traction, braking, and acceleration, making it easier to drive on sand, gravel, or slippery surfaces. The vehicle automatically optimises its settings for maximum control, giving drivers the confidence to take on extreme terrains. Anti-lock braking and an Off-Road Launch mode further enhance grip and stability, ensuring that no challenge is too big for this Defender.

Visually, the Defender OCTA makes an instant impact. It has a wider stance, extended wheel arches, and redesigned bumpers, all of which improve its ability to handle tough terrains. The underbody protection, including an aluminium alloy front shield, ensures that sharp rocks or obstacles don’t get in the way. Another first for the Defender is its 83.82 cm (33-inch) all-terrain tyres, the largest ever fitted to a production Defender, offering unbeatable traction and stability.

For those who want exclusivity, the Defender OCTA Edition One brings a special touch. It comes in a Faroe Green exterior, paired with a Khaki and Ebony Ultrafabrics™ PU interior. Chopped Carbon Fibre detailing adds to its premium feel, and the 20-inch forged alloy wheels give it a rugged yet sophisticated finish.

Inside, the cabin is designed to offer both luxury and innovation. The all-new Performance Seats come with Body and Soul Seat technology, developed in collaboration with SUBPAC and Coventry University. This system allows passengers to actually feel the music through vibrations, creating an immersive experience. Premium materials like Ultrafabrics™ PU, Kvadrat™ textile trims, and Burnt Sienna semi-aniline leather bring durability and comfort together in a way that complements the SUV’s overall personality.

Rajan Amba, managing director of JLR India, highlights that the Defender has already been a huge success in India, with a 75% growth in H1 FY25. The launch of the OCTA brings the toughest, most powerful Defender yet to Indian customers—one that is built for adventure but also offers a refined and premium driving experience.
