Inside The Quorum, where culture, community, and design meet

From layered textiles to intimate lounges, this members' club proves that good design is often about how a space makes you feel.

When The Quorum opened its Mumbai outpost in Lower Parel in 2021, it arrived with a simple but ambitious idea: to create a contemporary gathering space for the city. Spread across 56,000 square feet inside One World Centre, Mumbai, the members' club was envisioned as a place where dining, culture, community, and meaningful connections could comfortably coexist under one roof.

What makes The Quorum particularly interesting, however, is its approach to design. Instead of the sleek, formal aesthetic often associated with private clubs, the space leans into warmth and personality. Rich textiles, collected artworks, patterned rugs, residential-style lighting, and comfortable seating create an atmosphere that feels closer to home than a members-only institution. It is a space that encourages lingering, whether over a leisurely lunch, an afternoon conversation, or an evening gathering.

The Members' Lounge

The Members' Lounge immediately sets the tone. Plush sofas sit alongside upholstered armchairs, layered Persian-style rugs soften the wooden flooring, and warm lighting replaces the harsh brightness often found in workspaces. A mix of contemporary artwork and decorative objects gives the space a lived-in quality. But the highlight has to be the corner bar, stacked with a variety of wines and spirits, so that each member has something to their taste.

Earthy tones dominate the club's design. Rust, olive green, charcoal, walnut wood, and muted neutrals appear repeatedly, creating visual continuity between different rooms. Brass accents, textured fabrics, and indoor plants add life to each of the rooms. The overall design relies on comfort rather than excess.

Spaces with distinct personalities

One of the most appealing aspects of The Quorum is how each area feels intentionally different. The Study, designed for smaller gatherings and everyday work, is moodier and more cocoon-like. Patterned walls, a large bookshelf, heavy drapes, warm lamps, and abundant greenery create a setting that is soothing to the eyes and the mind. Meanwhile, The Parallel, a larger event space that can accommodate around 60 guests, adopts a cleaner and more contemporary design with floor-to-ceiling windows, muted furnishings, and flexible layouts that can shape-shift for everything from corporate events to social celebrations.

Then there's the Coalesce, which is especially designed for parties, movement, conversations and celebrations. It is lined with dining tables and cosy chairs, and it gives members the chance to look around at the abundance of paintings and portraits hung on the walls while they sip their coffee or enjoy a meal.

The Den is probably the cosiest room in the club, with huge windows draped in neutral fabric, the most comfortable couches lined with cushions, and the corners adorned with dim lighting and plants.

The next chapter for The Quorum

After Mumbai and Gurugram, The Quorum found its latest expression in Hyderabad, where it unveiled its third locale and most ambitious project yet. Spread across two floors and a rooftop terrace, the new club expands on the brand's residential approach to hospitality, placing equal emphasis on architecture, art, wellness, and community.

Mirrored corridors, sculptural lighting, antique bronze finishes, and curated art installations create a layered sensory experience that feels distinct to its setting while remaining true to The Quorum's vision. If Mumbai demonstrated how a members' club could feel warm and welcoming, Hyderabad takes that idea further, reimagining it through larger, more immersive spaces designed for connection, creativity, and culture.

Design that encourages community

The Quorum's strongest design feature is its ability to bring people together. Seating arrangements are more conversational than formal, but there is also a constant balance between privacy and openness. The club creates an environment that people genuinely want to spend time in.

In a city where space is a luxury, The Quorum manages to feel expansive without losing intimacy, and maybe that is what makes the club truly stand out.
