London’s outdoor dining season has settled into something more ritualistic than revelatory—a brief, much-anticipated window when the city loosens its formal edges and tables migrate into courtyards, terraces, and quietly guarded gardens.

It is a rhythm Londoners return to each year, not for novelty alone, but for the pleasure of familiarity reframed in open air. In that seasonal cadence, Hyde Park Garden at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London reopens for 2026 as one of the city’s most quietly assured al-fresco destinations, set within a private garden that feels both central and removed.

Led by the team behind Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, the space continues its exploration of British culinary nostalgia through a contemporary lens, anchored in sharing-led dining and seasonal produce. This year, however, carries a subtle shift in tone. With Dinner by Heston Blumenthal set to conclude its residency in January 2027, Hyde Park Garden also enters one of its final full seasons in its current form—adding a note of pause to a setting that has long balanced playfulness with precision.

Against this backdrop, the menu returns with signature familiarity and considered evolution. Chips and Fish makes its comeback, pairing beer-battered haddock with the restaurant’s iconic triple-cooked chips, while new sharing formats deepen the experience of communal dining. A Chippy Tea for two reframes a British takeaway classic into a layered, indulgent spread—complete with haddock fillets, chips, lemon salad, pickled onions, quail eggs, sauces, sides, and a lemon posset finished with berries.

As the day softens into afternoon, the pace shifts as well. Light savouries and sweets are joined by a new selection of scones served with jam and clotted cream, reinterpreting the British afternoon tea in an open-air setting that feels distinctly of the moment, yet rooted in tradition. Alongside these additions, signature dishes from Dinner by Heston Blumenthal remain—Meat Fruit (c.1500) and Tipsy Cake (c.1858) continuing to anchor the menu in historical reference points reimagined for today.

The experience extends naturally into the glass, with a drinks programme led by a Château d’Esclans-curated wine list, complemented by spritzes and non-alcoholic options designed for long, unhurried afternoons in the garden. Open throughout the season for lunch, drinks, and light bites, Hyde Park Garden also lends itself to private gatherings, from intimate celebrations to corporate events—framing it as much a setting for occasions as for dining.
