Reliance Brands Limited brings Stella McCartney to India, marking a new chapter for sustainable luxury
As sustainable luxury becomes increasingly relevant in India, McCartney's focus on cruelty-free materials and circular fashion, combined with Reliance's brand curation, signals a shift toward responsible luxury in the Indian market.

After teaming up with brands like Sandro and Maje, Reliance Brands Limited has added yet another dazzling feather to its hat by bringing the renowned British fashion brand, Stella McCartney, to India.
Now this isn’t just another global brand launch. Stella McCartney has always been vocal about its brand values. While it stands for luxury, it is also a consciously ethical brand that makes you think about the way fashion is made and consumed. Since launching her eponymous label in 2001, McCartney, who has been a lifelong vegetarian, has maintained a clear objective: no leather, no fur, no feathers, and no exotic skins. Instead, she chooses to work with innovative alternatives that are kinder to the environment.
But beyond the pieces themselves, the brand focuses on making fashion more circular, extending the life of garments by reusing and repairing them, allowing style and responsibility to go hand in hand. This, and the fact that McCartney has never wavered from her cruelty-free ethos, is why Reliance seems keen to champion the brand in India, especially as sustainable luxury becomes increasingly relevant here.
Reliance will bring McCartney’s ready-to-wear collections, along with her signature vegan handbags and shoes, to India via a mix of standalone stores and online platforms. It’s a move that perfectly aligns with a growing shift among Indian shoppers who are beginning to value sustainability and ethics as much as they enjoy style and exclusivity.
Reliance has done well for Indian luxury fashion consumers, bringing some of the best global luxury brands to India over the years. Earlier this year, they brought in brands like Sandro and Maje, adding to a roster that includes numerous high-end luxury labels such as Balenciaga, Tiffany & Co., Versace, Zegna, and more. But at the same time, the brand has ensured to honour and support luxury Indian labels as well, including names like Manish Malhotra and Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. Moreover, they aren’t afraid to branch out.
In addition to acquiring Hamleys in the UK, Reliance has also secured the rights to Superdry in India and is also diversifying into FMCG with acquisitions like SIL Foods and Campa Cola.
Their latest partnership signals a thoughtful evolution that shows Reliance isn’t just chasing another global name; it’s betting on a future where Indian consumers see sustainability and luxury as two sides of the same coin, rather than opposing ideals.
