With just a week to go for the 97th Academy Awards, the Screen Actors Guild Awards honoured the best performances in film and TV, handpicked by the members of SAG-AFTRA at the Shine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles. The star-studded event was hosted by Kristen Bell and featured a power-packed list of presenters including Quinta Brunson, Timothée Chalamet, Colman Domingo, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande.

In the film categories, Conclave took home the award for Best Cast Performance. Timothée Chalamet was honoured as Best Leading Actor for A Complete Unknown, while Demi Moore won Best Leading Actress for The Substance. Kieran Culkin secured Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain, and Zoe Saldaña was awarded Best Supporting Actress for her role in Emilia Pérez.

Other notable winners included Adrien Brody for Best Actor in The Brutalist and Pamela Anderson for Best Actress in The Last Showgirl. Emilia Pérez also claimed the Best Cast Ensemble award, while The Fall Guy won Best Stunt Ensemble in a competitive field.

The television categories saw Shōgun dominate, with Hiroyuki Sanada named Best Actor in a Drama Series and Anna Sawai winning Best Actress in a Drama Series. Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) and Jean Smart (Hacks) took home the comedy acting awards. Shōgun also won Best Drama Ensemble, reinforcing its position as a top contender at the 2025 Emmy Awards. The Bear earned Best Comedy Ensemble, and Shōgun claimed Best Stunt Ensemble in Television as well.

Here are the major highlights of the night

The cast of ‘Conclave’ wishes Pope Francis a speedy recovery

Conclave has been scooping up awards. The film, which spotlights the process of choosing a new pope, won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. During their winning speech, Ralph Fiennes, Isabella Rossellini, John Lithgow and Sergio Castellitto paid tribute to the ailing pontiff, "First of all, we would like to wish Pope Francis a quick recovery," Rossellini began the segment. Conclave is the secret meeting where the new pope is elected," continued the Italian actress, "and this is what this film is about. It all happens behind the secret world of the Vatican."

Kieran Culkin calls out Adrien Brody in his acceptance speech

Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain at the 2025 SAG Awards, joking during his speech, "Thank you for this incredibly heavy award. I don’t think anyone can hold this for 45 seconds… which is the allotted time, Adrien Brody!"

Calling the moment "a weird fever dream," Culkin later clarified there was no ill intent, adding, "I hope it's all right."

‘Shogun’ star Hiroyuki Sanada Celebrates the 'Universal Language' of Acting

As the cast of Shogun took the stage to accept the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, Hiroyuki Sanada expressed his gratitude, saying, "This is so special because this is from you guys." He extended his thanks to the team behind the show, acknowledging their effort to "respect our culture and believing in us. It was a great journey." Sanada also highlighted the boldness of the series, noting that it "must have been a big gamble" with its "70% Japanese and with subtitles." "They were so brave," he remarked. "But Shōgun and this award is showing us that acting is a universal language. Thank you so much!"

A shock for Selena Gomez

The Hulu series Only Murders in the Building walked away with two awards on Sunday: Martin Short won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series, and the show itself claimed Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. The most surprised of all was Selena Gomez, whose stunned reaction was captured when Only Murders in the Building was announced as the winner in the ensemble category. With her mouth agape, Gomez made her way to the stage with her co-stars and spoke on their behalf. "We never win, this is so weird," Gomez exclaimed. "OK, well, Marty (Short) and Steve (Martin) aren't here 'cause, you know, they don't really care."

"... I genuinely am just so grateful. Everybody -- the writers, everyone deserves this. I take it home for all of us. And I'm bringing this back to New York for Season 5. I'm so grateful," she added. "Thank you to SAG-AFTRA. Thank you everybody. I love you."
